Battle

A couple of days ago when I was looking for some files on my hard drive, I noticed an mp3 file called 「遥か〜SAILING FOR MY DREAM〜」, and I realized it’s the theme song of an anime I loved when I was in elementary school, called B’t X. I vaguely remember it’s about some soldiers and their robot companions, and how to fight a battle against some villain. Sounds just like another Marvel movie, doesn’t it?

I remember this anime was a nightmare of my childhood, and one of the reasons is exactly this opening song. It’s a very upbeat and nice song that make your spirit high, but the part where the background voice used to freak me out, where a bunch of women yelling “ahh“. Plus, the anime got very dark sometimes and the scenes often got very scary. I even avoided watching some parts of some episodes.

But I still loved the anime, and it was so different than others I’ve watched or loved. I was not a very “boy-ish“ boy, and most of the anime I loved were only appealing to girls. B’t X was definitely an exception. I have no idea why this one came and stayed in my childhood. Now that I’m thinking about it, I think it’s because I loved watching them fight, and somehow I wished I could have that kind of strength and power too. I guess there was still a bit “boyhood“ in me at that time? Haha.

Another possible reason probably is the four soldiers resemble what an ideal man should be for me. The soldier with a phoenix, Fou Lafine, represents an elegant gentleman; the one with a dragon, Ron, is a symbol of strength (he looks the most muscular among the four); the one with a turtle, Hokuto, represents a man with wisdom and calm; and lastly, Teppei with Bt’X, simply has the determination and bravery.

Now those anime seemed even a bit childish for me. Teppei can just shout out “Messiah Fist“ and the enemy was gone most of the time. As a child in elementary school at that time, when I knew not much about the world, it seems shouting out “Messiah Fist“ is just so powerful. And if I have the courage, determination, strength, and wisdom like the soldiers in the anime, I can simply win any battle. All these years later, I gradually forgot this anime and those simple thoughts. They seemed too simply and silly. But somehow, it is this silliness that makes you feel strong.

I’ve become more mature, and I train myself almost every day, just like Teppei in the anime. I appreciate the anime more, and I wanted to get it back — the simple thoughts, the determination, the courage, like an unsophisticated young boy. Maybe I’m still an unsophisticated young boy, comparing to people of my age? I just want that kind of simple world.
